The only way to go is virtual

I have made some software that created 3D citys from a random seed and new graphics cards and computers really started a revolution in gaming and virtual worlds.

I have always been a gamer. I wrote my first game on a Lambda 16. Z80 processor, 16k ram and a rubber keyboard that said pip everytime you pressed a key.

I love games and i always have. But i was not prepaird for the very new. Virtual worlds and Second life. It just blew me away completly. After my first half hour in Second life I had a account, some land and i lived more in SL the first year than in real life. I partyed ,created and made friends. It was great.

I am still in Second life and i am still creating stuff. If you want to know more you can check out my virtual game company at http://www.2worlds2go.com .

I make exhibitions in my gallery and more people or avatars see my work now than in real life.

I enjoy the creativ side of the new web 2.o and i am staying.

2000 onvard: the tech

As computer was getting stronger i started to do experiments with writing graphics software.

Software that was using random dynamics to create pictures or 3D citys.

Graphics software was getting better and less expensiv so i made pictures from photographs, scanned and layerd.

I was working as a freelance programmer and web creator relly learning my trade as a computer artist and for a while I created databases and wrote the software that showed statistics in a nice graphic way. I liked it but wanted to go back to being a artist full time. So I did.

At the time Microsoft had a web system called activX i wrote a componenet that created new pictures everytime the page was opened.

I made many programs building on a random number to create something.

My company at the time was called Ultimate snowfall Design. I think it is the best company name i ever had but i also liked Cybernetic worlds and some other crazy companys i have owned.

I am still using some of the pictures i made as wallpapers on my computers.

I put some of them up in the download section.

The very beginning

My very first website. This is almost like the original code. Screens was not very wide at that time 640px.My web magazine was publish at Yahoo/Geocities one of the first free web spaces. It was all about me i was as self centered then as i am now. In three months the counter hit 300000 hits. I do not know if it was a error or i really was a succes. No one ever told me.

Web performance

I started early to try to get images and even video streams on the net. All my pictures was made with a old video camera The digital camera did not exsist yet.On Yahoo/Geocities i could stream my first performance. It was kind of cool. I made it in my living room.

Performance ART

Anna the true story.

Anna started out as a few pictures i needed for a painting. As i added more pictures i decided to do a project about here. Then the work expanded into video and performance.

Shes a cyber personality and pretty much live her life as she wants too on the web. I have tried to figure out what art can look like on the web. Maybe this is it. One way to work.

  • Euro truck simulator 2, TruckersMP, VorpX, Oculus rift

Finally I got some of my hardware to work and I have had a fun afternoon honking at trucks while driving slowly in my new car around Scandinavia. The landscape is just beautiful and the roads nice. I will have some coffee and then it is onward to the continent.

    This is so much fun.

  • Playing Adrift for a few hours.

First time i really go deep inside a VR game. Well i got sick for a few times. But it works in the game because i suppose i would if i was trapped in a space station and moved around to much. It is a nice touch. Keep still in game to not get sick. It is a cool game and scary. Feeling of being there is nice.

So you can do a nice VR game without killing things. I like that.

  • Back in to Sansar. Today Bryn Oh.

Visited An evening at the Ballet by Bryn Oh. Not easy to find something you like. Bryn Oh is one of my fav artists in SL and she do not dissapoint. Like several tableau with a strong feeling of being in the theatre. I liked it.

Visited some other nice places but the feeling of being alone is creeping up on you. When i visited Astro Port there was a avatar just standing there and when in VR that is just scary.

  • The quality of things in Second life.

Visited the beach today and i am amazed. The mesh quality of things in Second life. And done right it is not very hard on the graphics card. Reducing lag. If it is done right.

I used my Oculus to inspect the nice work and it made it a very nice experience, blink, blink. ( Did you see that.)

Now we only need a new viewer and some some new shaders to play around with.
